“The only Australian made SUV, the Ford Territory finished up production last year. Available in both rear wheel and all wheel drive configurations, the big wagon was powered by the Australian twin cam Barra six cylinder engine in both naturally aspirated and single turbocharged variants.
Independent Motorsports has been at the front for some time in terms of real world track results. Their factory turbo 2008 example has been close to a single digit quarter mile ET for the past 12 months, with constant driveline amendments along the way due to the Ford’s 2-plus tonne weight.
The forged 6 engine is boosted by a Borg Warner turbo that features a custom front wheel by ATP. Making power is one thing but getting this tank down the track has proven to be the real challenge. Power drives through a Nizpro ZF 6spd trans and IMS’s own drag spec transfer case and twin bush diff hat. This time out the IMS team were confident of cracking that 9-second quarter mile pass.
